While working for others, Chef Henry Butcher became the go-to chef when a party wanted Creole food. He was the caterer. In 2006, the 54-year-old native of the Louisiana Bayou country, decided it was time to be his own boss and opened the Creole Kitchen.
His specialty is crawfish etoufee. The menu is all Bayou, including seafood jambalaya, fried gator, tasso gumbo, fried catfish Creole, and, of course, red beans and rice. Take out only.

The Homeport Gallery, a venture by Columbus Housing Partnership (CHP) to foster community development through art, opened its doors on May 12, 2011. The Homeport Gallery’s opening exhibition, “African Rhythms in Paint”, will feature the work of local artist, Suazanne Accetta. Accetta drew her inspiration from the richness of West African culture and music, which she was exposed to locally by the Thiossane Institute.
“I spent hours watching their amazing performances and could really feel the drums as I painted”, said Accetta. “I hope that I have captured the movement, passion and art that the Institute tries to create in their dances.”

Not only do these talented local companies utilize the theatre for rehearsals, performances, and office space, but they also offer a variety of classes in the performing arts. The Jazz Arts Group’s Jazz Academy occupies the entire third floor of the building, offering rehearsal and lecture spaces, a recording studio, and instructional areas for keyboard and music technology. Four resident arts groups offer instruction in the increasingly popular genre of liturgical dance, forming a strong and concentrated liturgical dance resource for central Ohio.

Nestled in what is known as Columbus’ Cradle of Jazz, Urban-Spirit Coffee Shop, Ltd. is a coffee shop and art gallery reminiscent of the bustling spirit of Long Street during the 1920’s.
